Vladimir Vasilevich Shavrin was born in the village of Zadnee of the Vologda Region on November 4, 1928. He finished the village school with excellent marks and went on to attend the Art School in Penza. After graduation he entered the Repin Academy of Fine Arts in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg).
