Solomon Ilich Gelashvili was born in 1928 in the village of Kartanegi, the Borzhomi district, Zakavkazskaya Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. He studied at Tbilsi Art College until 1956 and at the Leningrad Higher School of Arts and Industry College until 1962. He became a member of the USSR Artists Union in 1970. Since 1959, he participated in regional, zonal and republican exhibitions. He is best known as a monumentalist. His paintings are represented in the Kramskoj Voronezh Regional Art Museum. He is the author of the bas-relief “Skomorokhi” on the building of the Actors’ House in Voronezh (1978). He lived and worked in Voronezh where he died in 1994.
