Nikita Petrovich Fomin was born in 1949, the son of the well-known landscape painter and Academician, Pyotr Fomin. After completing Middle Art School, Fomin studied at the Repin Institute, graduating in 1973. He graduated from Professor and Academician Andrei Mylnikov’s mural painting studio in 1978. He became a member of the Russian Artists’ Union in 1975 and has served on a variety of union councils. He has received the Laureate Government Prize of Russia for his paintings. He is now the painting teacher in Eduard Kachirgin’s theatrical painting studio at the Repin, and he is an Honored Artist of Russia and a Russian State Prize Winner. Sukhov is a member of a four-person alliance called FoRUS, and acromym for Fomin, Repin, Uralov, and Sukhov, four artists who have known each other since boyhood and worked together all of their adulthood. Adept in fresco and mosaics as well as oils, the four artists collaborate to produce monumental works. There are many murals by FoRUS in St. Petersburg restaurants, Metro stations, hotels, concert halls, and government buildings. All four men have outstanding careers as individual artists as well. Nikita Fomin has been an artist-in-residence at the University of Montana at Boseman and at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee. He has participated in more than 100 St. Petersburg, All-Russian and international exhibitions. Personal exhibitions include: 1991: The Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg 2003: The State Pushkin Museum “Mikhailovskoye” 2004: The Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg Fomin’s works are owned by the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, the Museum of City History in St. Petersburg, the Museum of City History in Moscow, the Communal’s Pinacoteca in Ravenna, Italy, as well as by private collections in Russia, France, Poland, Finland, Italy and the United States. Nikita’s wife, Irena Safronova, is also a well-known St. Petersburg artist. Their daughter, Olga Fomina, is currently studying at the Repin, preparing to follow her parents and grandfather into their chosen profession.
