Sergei Nikolaevich Repin was born in 1948. In 1973 he graduated from the Repin Academy of Art, Sculpture, and Architecture (no relation) in St. Petersburg in the Monumental Studio of Painting under academician Andrei Mylnikov.
He has participated in more than 100 Russian and international exhibitions since 1972.
He has been a member of the Artists’ Union of Russia since 1975. He is a member of a four-person alliance called FoRUS, and acromym for Fomin, Repin, Uralov, and Sukhov, four artists who have known each other since boyhood and worked together all of their adulthood. Adept in fresco and mosaics as well as oils, the four artists collaborate to produce monumental works. There are many murals by FoRUS in St. Petersburg restaurants, Metro stations, hotels, concert halls, and government buildings. All four men have outstanding careers as individual artists as well.
He was a visiting professor at the University of Montana at Boseman in the summer of 1995.
He is a docent at the Repin Institute and has won the Government Laureate Prize of Russia.
He became a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts in 2003.
His works can be found in the collections of museums in Russia, the Ukraine, Italy, Finland, etc., and in private collections in Russia, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Finland, Poland, and the United States.
Sergei Repin works in many genres of art: landscape, portraiture, still life, compositional paintings, and in monumental art in mosaics, paintings, and tapestry.
