Igor Vadimovich Petrov was born in Svetlogorsk in 1951. In 1975 he graduated with honors from the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under the guidance of the well known painter Professor V. M. Oreshnikov. In 1978 he finished a post-graduate course under the guidance of V. M. Oreshnikov. Since 1978 he has been teaching at the Repin Institute and is a professor of the department of painting and composition. He has participated in republic, All-Union and international exhibitions.

His works are owned by the Museum of City History in St. Petersburg, the Museum of Medicine in Riga (Latvia), the Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, as well as by private collections in Russia, Finland, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Japan and China.
